Say hello to The Dance Party everyone (referred to from now on as simply, The Party). The four-piece super high-energy band from D.C. is slowly coming up in the music world. As far as local bands go they're royalty.
The Party's first full fledged album Friction! Friction! Friction!, released in July of '07, is a fun, dance-to-it-while-you're-vacuuming album. The songs include such head-banging prone songs A-List and Lipstick. The lyrics are raw and catchy as with the guitar, which at times can seem repetitive. The drums are your classic indie band drums, best showcased in the song Indie Beat, damn catchy and original (not to mention hella speedy). The Party is full of surprises, Renegade is probably their most original song filled with some much needed angst and synth riffs. Also notable was the sweet but heavy acoustic guitar.
Bottom line, The Party is an local band with a big sound. Full of potential but would benefit from an experienced producer to refine their sound just a wee bit. I'm not going to lie, you might have a hard time not breaking out in some wicked air guitar with these guys gracing your eardrums. And if you live in the D.C./V.A. area, The Dance Party is fantastic live and it's a crime not to attend one of their shows.
